Carrie Sz. Keane

MSN, CNM

Joined the practice in Fall of 2018.

Carrie has been a practicing nurse midwife for fifteen years in a variety of settings within Delaware. Upon graduation from Yale University, Carrie was sent to Sussex County as a National Health Service Corps scholar to pay back her graduate school scholarship by working in an “underserved” region of the US. Initially, Carrie worked concomitantly at a private practice doing deliveries at Beebe Hospital and at the Women’s Wellness Center at Perdue Chicken Factory providing women’s health services to migrant farm workers and factory employees. While at Beebe, Carrie attended more than 5,000 births. Additionally, Carrie has spent almost 7 years working in a public health, std, and contraception clinic in Dover providing need-base, free, or low cost care to men and women. She was instrumental in the nearly 15% reduction rate of unintended pregnancies in the state of Delaware by providing free birth control to women who wanted to avoid pregnancy through the Upstream grant program. Two years ago, Carrie and her team won a Community Service Award for the State of Delaware for offering education, guidance, testing and prescriptions for the AIDs prophylactic medication, known as PREP. Because of her concern for women’s rights and choice, Carrie was an advocate for the homebirth legislation in the state of Delaware and was a vociferous nurse midwife in the legislative hall meetings. Her work passion is to serve the disenfranchised, uninsured and underserved population. She specializes in family planning education and healthcare access.

Outside of work, Carrie’s passion is to spend time at home with her husband and 5 pets, to travel the world, read books, and to be in nature, hiking, snorkeling, beach combing. She is presently writing a memoir about her career.

Specializing In

“Over the years I have heard women’s stories from all over the world. For me, midwifery is listening to and caring about the histories of women, especially in regards to how they tend to their bodies and their health. I believe access to evidence based midwifery care is a human right, and should be available to all, no matter their status.”
